Muslims and other minorities in India are facing serious violence and threats to their very existence. In fact, human rights experts from Genocide Watch and the UN have warned of looming genocide in India. This conversation will delineate the background of the crisis and the manner in which the Indian government has operationalized the law, state power, and violence to curb the civil and human rights of Muslims in India and occupied Kashmir. It will also touch upon how American social media platforms have enabled the Indian government to advance right-wing extremist forces and spur violence against Muslims. As law students and advocates, we have an obligation to learn more about this alarming human rights crisis and the ways in which we can continue to fight for religious freedom, democracy, and free speech.
