The Center for South Asia invites you to attend "Reading Language Loss in India" , a virtual talk by Dr. Akshya Saxena, Assistant Professor of English at Vanderbilt University.

About the Webinar: What is lost when a language is lost? How does language loss haunt scholarly discussions of multilingualism in literary studies? How might we read lost languages? This talk responds to these questions through a reading of Hindi poet Jacinta Kerketta’s writings about the forests of Saranda, an iron- and timber-rich biodiversity zone in central India.

Speaker's bio: Akshya Saxena is Assistant Professor of English at Vanderbilt University. Her scholarship appears in Cultural Critique, ariel, Interventions. She is the author of Vernacular English: Reading the Anglophone in Postcolonial India (Princeton UP, 2022) and the co-editor of Thinking With An Accent (U of California P, 2023).
