Pranab Bardhan | Corruption in India: When Preaching Piety is Not Enough

Pranab Bardhan is a Professor of Graduate School, Department of Economics, University of California at Berkeley. He  was educated in Presidency College, Kolkata, and Cambridge University, UK. He served in the Faculty of MIT, Indian Statistical Institute and Delhi School of Economics before joining Berkeley. Later he was the BP Centennial Professor at London School of Economics, and was Visiting fellow at Trinity College, Cambridge and St. Catherine's College, Oxford. He was the Chief Editor of Journal of Development Economics for 18 years and author of 14 books and more than 150 journal articles.

After discussing some important definitional issues, the lecture will look into various determinants of the incidence of corruption, and the multiple ways to combat it in the context of India.
