Stanford student conducts research on India’s 181 help line for women

With co-sponsorship by the Center for South Asia and the WSD Handa Center for Human Rights & International Justice, Stanford student Japsimran Kaur, ’18, spent her summer working with a team of Stanford researchers in Gujarat, India. Stanford Global Studies colleagues Sangeeta Mediratta, Associate Director, Center for South Asia, and Meredith Miller Vostrejs, Program Manager, WSD Handa Center for Human Rights & International Justice, sat down for a Q&A with Japsimran to reflect on her summer experience.

On February 9, Stanford hosted the 4th Annual Stanford Global Health Research Convening, "a one-day conference bringing together students, faculty and researchers across Stanford University who are working in global health...the convening is designed to build community among researchers, highlight and share the many facets of global health research at Stanford, connect researchers across schools and disciplines, and connect students with researchers and mentors.

Diwali or Deepwali is an auspicious “festival of lights” celebrated throughout India and the world. This holiday, which coincides with the start of the Hindu New Year, celebrates good over evil as well as Lord Rama’s long-awaited arrival after saving his wife Sita from the demon Ravana. This year, the holiday fell on Thursday, October 19th, and Stanford students hosted a Diwali celebration in White Plaza the following Saturday evening.
