About the event
Wave: Life and Memories after the Tsunami is a memoir by Sri Lankan economist at SOAS, University of London, and Columbia University, Sonali Deraniyagala, about the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. It was first published in 2013 by Alfred A. Knopf.

On December 26, 2004, at a beach resort on the coast of Sri Lanka, Sonali Deraniyagala and her family—parents, husband, sons—were swept away by a devastating tsunami. Only Sonali survived to tell their tale. The book, Wave is her personal reminiscing of the nearly incomprehensible event and its aftermath.
