From Self-Rule to Self-Respect: Dravidianist & Pan-Africanist Exchanges

Karthick Ram Manoharan, an assistant professor at the National Law School of India University, and Nithin Seelan, a graduate student in anthropology at the University of California, Los Angeles, will join an hour-long virtual event on the exchanges between Dravidianism and Pan-Africanism for specialists and non-specialists alike. This event will discuss Periyar E.V. Ramasamy’s and Frantz Fanon’s contributions to the study of caste and colonialism, how “Dravidians” figured into early Pan-Africanist and Caribbean thought, as well as the utility of contemporary race-caste comparisons.
