CSA Annual Lecture 2018: Leela Gandhi, If this were a Manifesto for Postcolonial Theory

This talk will take stock of recent developments in postcolonial theory. Leela Gandhi suggest that postcolonial theory is a modern philosophy of renunciation that offers a unique proposal for non-injuriousness as a way of life and as a basis for community.

She is the John Hawkes Professor of Humanities and English at Brown University and the author of Affective Communities (2006) and The Common Cause (2014). A second edition of her book, Postcolonial Theory is forthcoming from Columbia University Press in 2019. She has taught in India and Australia, with visiting professorships in Denmark, Italy and Iran. Her work is translated into many languages.
