About

Inaugurated in 2006, CSA is devoted to developing and coordinating Stanford's resources for the study of South Asia across all the disciplines in the School of Humanities and Sciences. It works with departments and other units to increase faculty strength, support research, expand course offerings, build the library collection, and sponsor programs and events.

The South Asia region, including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bhutan, has long been a powerful and influential presence in the world--from its ancient civilizations, important languages, and richly diverse cultures to its currently burgeoning political and economic significance. South Asia has a particularly strong presence in and around the Stanford community. In its first year, CSA looks forward to building a strong foundation for the study of South Asia at Stanford.
